Board of Directors – Open Position
Mosquito Fire Protection District is accepting Letters of Interest from qualified residents to fill one open position on the Board of Directors. The Board will appoint one new member at a public meeting on February 26, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The term for the appointed director will expire on December 4, 2026.
About the Board
Board members serve in a volunteer, unpaid public service role. Regular business meetings are typically held on the fourth Thursday of each month and generally begin at 7:00 p.m. In addition to regular meetings, the Board may hold workshops and special meetings as needed throughout the year.
Board Member Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Attending Board meetings
- Reviewing and approving Fire District policies
- Working with District staff on preparation and approval of the annual budget
- Conducting the annual evaluation of the Fire Chief
- Working collaboratively with the Fire Chief, District staff, volunteers, and community members in the best interests of the District
Letter of Interest Requirements
Interested residents must submit a Letter of Interest that includes written responses to the following questions:
- Why do you want to serve on the Mosquito Fire Protection District Board?
- What are your goals and objectives for the District?
- What skills, experience, or perspective would you bring to the Board?
Preferred Qualifications
Additional consideration may be given to individuals with:
- Prior local government experience
- Knowledge of California Open Meeting and Public Records laws
- Budgeting or finance experience, particularly in special taxing districts
- Prior board service with other special districts
- Background in Fire and Life Safety or Emergency Medical Services
- Availability and willingness to actively participate
